What we fix
Faults the electrician fixes on site. Call, or describe yours in the request.
No power in the whole flat
The electrician first checks whether the fault is in the street or inside your home. If the neighbours have power and your meter is live, the fault is in your installation: he tests the fuse board, finds the failed circuit and restores power.
Breaker trips and will not reset
A breaker that refuses to reset is protecting you from something. The electrician switches the circuits off one by one, finds the one causing the trip and repairs it, or replaces the breaker or the RCD (the "diferencial").
Burning smell, sparks or a hot socket
Switch off the main breaker and leave it off. The electrician opens the socket or the board, replaces what has melted and checks the connections around it before the power goes back on.
Short circuit
The electrician isolates the circuit that is shorting, finds the point (a socket, a junction box, a cable) and repairs it. The rest of the home keeps its power while the damaged section is fixed.
Flickering lights and appliances switching off
Unstable voltage is usually a loose connection in the board, a badly tightened neutral or a problem on the supply cable. The electrician measures the voltage and remakes the connections. If the problem comes from outside, he tells you it is a matter for E-Redes.
Only one room or one circuit without power
A partial failure is most often a tripped breaker or a broken connection in a junction box. The electrician follows the circuit to the point of failure and restores it.
Shop or office without electricity
A business at a standstill comes first. The electrician goes to the board, restores whatever can be restored so you can reopen, and books the permanent repair outside opening hours if needed.
Common areas of the building without power
Stairwell lights, a lift stopped by an electrical fault, a water pump or an automatic gate with no power. The electrician deals with the building administrator or the porter, repairs the fault and invoices the condominium.
No hot water from the electric water heater
When the electric water heater (the "termoacumulador") stops heating, the electrician checks the supply, the thermostat and the heating element. He tells you on the phone whether it is worth repairing or whether a part has to be replaced.
Electric shock from an appliance or a tap
A shock from a tap or a washing machine means current is leaking or the earth connection is missing. Do not touch it again. The electrician measures the leak, corrects the earthing and tests the RCD.
Exposed wire or broken cable
Switch the circuit off at the board and keep children and pets away. The electrician isolates it, replaces the damaged length of cable and closes the box or socket properly.
Water getting into the board or the sockets
Water in the fuse board or in a socket is an emergency. Switch off the main breaker and do not use the wet socket. The electrician dries it out, tests the insulation and replaces whatever was damaged.
How it works
1 · on the phone
Call, or send a photo on WhatsApp
The electrician answers the phone himself, at any hour. Tell him what is happening and which municipality you are in. If you can, send a photo of the fuse board and your location on WhatsApp: in most cases that is enough to understand the fault before he leaves.
What the electrician receives Hello, I need an electrician. Problem: There is no power in the whole flat Area: Lisboa When: Now, it is urgent
2 · before leaving
Call-out fee and arrival time, on the phone
Before leaving, the electrician tells you the call-out fee. At night, at weekends and on public holidays there is a fixed extra amount, told in the same call. In Lisbon he arrives in about 30 minutes. In the other municipalities he gives you the arrival time on the phone.
3 · at your home
Repair, invoice and payment
On site, the electrician tests, finds the fault and tells you what he is going to do. When the fault has to be opened up and tested, the repair price is settled once the cause is visible. Pay by MB Way, card on the terminal, bank transfer or cash. Invoice with your tax number (NIF): just ask.
When the fault belongs to E-Redes and not to the electrician
A home electrical installation has two sides. From the meter to the street (the supply cable, the meter and the sealed box with the cut-out for your contracted power) the responsibility lies with E-Redes, the company that runs the distribution grid in Portugal, whichever supplier bills you. From the meter inwards (your fuse board, the cables, the sockets and the light points) the responsibility is yours, and that is where the electrician works.
In practice: if the whole building is dark, if the meter display is off or if the problem is in the sealed box, there is no point paying an electrician a call-out fee. Call the E-Redes fault line. If the neighbours have power, the meter is working and it is your own board that trips or will not reset, the fault is in your installation and that is our job.
If you are not sure, send a photo of the board and the meter on WhatsApp. The electrician tells you on the phone which side the problem is on. If it is E-Redes, he says so and does not come out to charge you for a fault he cannot repair.
What to do while you wait for the electrician
If there is a burning smell, smoke, a hot socket or sparks, switch off the main breaker at the fuse board and leave it off. Do not try resetting it to see whether it goes away. If you cannot reach the board safely, leave the room and wait.
Do not touch exposed wires or appliances that have given you a shock, even with the board off. Keep water away from any socket, board or appliance: do not wipe, do not dry with a cloth, do not point a fan at it. If water is getting into the board, switch off the main breaker and leave everything as it is.
With your phone, take a photo of the board with the breakers visible and, if relevant, of the socket or the appliance involved. Send it on WhatsApp with your location. That way the electrician arrives already knowing roughly what the fault is, with the right parts in the van.
Emergency electrician in Lisbon: what changes at night and at weekends
An electrical emergency does not pick its hour, so the phone is answered by the electrician at any time, every day. What changes at night, at weekends and on public holidays is the call-out: there is a fixed extra amount, which depends on the area, and it is told in the same call as everything else. No surprise on arrival.
The arrival time is also told honestly. In Lisbon, in most cases, about 30 minutes. In Amadora, Sintra, Cascais, Oeiras, Loures, Odivelas, Vila Franca de Xira, Mafra or on the south bank of the Tagus (Almada, Charneca da Caparica, Seixal, Montijo, Barreiro, Setúbal), the electrician gives you the time on the phone, depending on where he is at that moment.
If the fault can wait until morning (a secondary circuit without power, a dead socket in a room you do not use), the electrician tells you so on the phone. He books it for normal hours and you save the emergency surcharge. If it cannot wait, he comes.
Who comes to your home
- 15 years of experience
- One electrician, phone to door
- Photo and location on WhatsApp
The person who comes to your home is an electrician with 15 years of experience in faults, installations and fuse boards, in flats, shops and residential buildings. He answers the phone, day and night, and he is the one who turns up. There is no call centre and no other electrician in between. Before leaving, he asks for a photo of the board and your location on WhatsApp so he brings the right parts. He answers in English, works cleanly and leaves no mess.

What we do not do
To save you time and money: there are jobs we do not take, and we say so on the phone.
- Repair of household appliances (washing machines, fridges, ovens)
- Lifts: only the electrical side of the common areas, never the lift machinery
- High voltage
- Industrial equipment as an emergency
- Emergencies outside the municipalities we cover
- Faults on the meter, the sealed box or the supply cable: those belong to E-Redes, and we tell you so on the phone
Where we go
Lisbon is the main area, with arrival in about 30 minutes for an emergency. In the other municipalities the electrician tells you the arrival time on the phone, before leaving.
Frequently asked questions
Do you really have a 24-hour electrician in Lisbon?
Yes. The phone is answered by the electrician at 3 in the morning, on Sundays and on public holidays, and the person who answers is the one who comes to your home. The emergency area is the same as the normal one: Lisbon, Amadora, Sintra, Cascais, Oeiras, Loures, Odivelas, Vila Franca de Xira, Mafra, Almada, Charneca da Caparica, Seixal, Montijo, Barreiro and Setúbal. If a call goes unanswered, he rings back within minutes.
How long does it take you to arrive?
In Lisbon, in most cases, about 30 minutes. In the other municipalities it depends on where the electrician is and on traffic, so he gives you the arrival time on the phone before leaving, rather than a generic promise. If he is on another job, he tells you that too, so you can decide whether to wait or look elsewhere.
Is the call-out free?
No. What is free is the assessment by photo and message on WhatsApp: send a picture of the board or the socket and the electrician tells you what he thinks at no cost. The visit has a call-out fee, which is told on the phone before he leaves. At night, at weekends and on public holidays there is a fixed extra amount, also told in advance.
How much does an emergency electrician in Lisbon cost?
We do not publish a price list, because every fault is different. What you always know before the electrician leaves is the call-out fee. The repair can only be priced once the cause is visible: replacing a breaker costs one thing, a burnt cable inside a wall costs another. In an emergency it is not always possible to fix the full amount before starting, and the electrician tells you so plainly.
What is E-Redes, and when is the fault theirs?
E-Redes is the company that owns and runs the electricity grid and the meters in Portugal, whichever supplier sends you the bill (EDP or another). Everything from the meter outwards, including the sealed box with the main cut-out, is theirs. Everything from the meter inwards, your fuse board, cables and sockets, is yours, and that is where an electrician works. If the whole building is dark or the meter is dead, call E-Redes, not an electrician.
Why does the fuse board keep tripping?
Three main reasons. Overload: more appliances running than your contracted power ("potência contratada") allows, so the main breaker cuts out. Short circuit: two conductors touching, because of a damaged cable, a burnt socket or a faulty appliance. Earth leakage: the RCD trips because current is escaping to earth, often from damp or a faulty appliance. The electrician measures and tells you which of the three it is.
What should I do if the board trips again and again?
Unplug the heavy consumers (oven, washing machine, water heater, electric heater) and reset the breaker. If it holds, the problem is overload or one of those appliances. If it trips again with nothing running, there is a short or a leak in the installation and there is no point insisting: every repeated trip wears the breaker. Leave it off and call.
What if the fuse board will not switch on at all?
First check whether the neighbours have power. If the whole building is dark, it is the grid, and the contact is E-Redes. If only your home is without power, look at the main breaker and the RCD: if they are down and will not reset, there is a fault in your installation. If the board is up and there is still no power, the fault may be in the meter or the sealed box, which also belong to E-Redes.
What are your opening hours?
Emergencies: 24 hours, every day, including public holidays. Non-urgent work (installations, fuse boards, sockets, lighting, quotes): Monday to Friday until 8 pm and Saturday mornings. If you call at 2 am with a fault, you are answered. If you call at 2 am to book an installation, you are also answered, but the visit is booked for normal hours.
How do I know I will not be charged for work I did not need?
By the process, not by promises. The call-out fee is told before he leaves. On site, the electrician shows you the fault and explains what he is going to replace and why, before doing it. If the fault belongs to E-Redes, he tells you and charges no repair. You can ask for an invoice with your NIF for everything you pay. And the list of what we do not do is on this page, so you do not call us for nothing.
Can I send a photo before calling?
Yes, and it helps. Send a WhatsApp photo of the fuse board with the breakers visible, or of the socket and the appliance involved, plus your location. With the photo the electrician can often tell what is wrong, bring the right parts and avoid a second visit. If you would rather talk, call: he answers and asks for the photo during the call if needed.
Request help in 30 seconds
